Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle are used to produce white wine. In 1855, a classification was introduced to indicate extremely good wine, the so-called Grand Crus. The classification used depends on the region. The classification for Médoc and Sauternes is different than that used for Graves. The classification has only been reviewed once (after the promotion of Château Mouton Rothschild). There is also the 'Crus Bourgeois' and 'Crus Artisans' (family domains) classification.
